Florida is near the top of most auto accident categories each and every year. This goes for both total accidents as well as fatalities. We have a very large state and a large population too. In fact, there are over 8 million registered drivers in Florida. This makes for a large volume of road traffic and potential accidents.

In this article we want to share with you the most common causes for car accidents in our state. Some of these you may be able to guess right off the bat while others may seem a little more surprising.

I. Distracted Driving

Yes, we all know this one too well. It’s impossible to drive anywhere without seeing a car swerving all over the road because they are texting and driving. Even though there are laws in place to keep people from doing this, they do it anyway. The modern day convenience of a smart phone means that our lives can be managed more efficiently. However, it also means that people are glued to them and are willing to risk life and limb to check the latest social media post or see their latest incoming text message.

II. Speeding

Speed limits exist for a reason. The higher speed we travel, the more probable an accident is. Not only that, but the severity of the accident increases as well. If you travel any one of our highways or main roads you will notice that almost everyone is exceeding the speed limit these days.

III. Weather

Florida is called The Sunshine State but we are also #4 in the nation as far as rainfall. Slick roads, impaired vision, and debris on the roadway all contribute to unsafe driving conditions. The skies can open up with a violent storm with little or no warning, putting drivers in a precarious position.

IV. DUI

Even with the advent of Uber, there are still people who decide to drive after ingesting alcohol. They are willing to risk your and their lives so that they don’t have to pay the twenty bucks to a rideshare service. Alcohol related accidents have been responsible for many thousands of deaths and injuries over the years.

V. Aggressive Drivers

We’ve all seen them. They swerve in and out of traffic and ride the tailgate of other drivers. In their mind you are not another person, you are simply an impediment in the way of them getting where they need to be. Aggressive drivers create problems all over the roads. They create car accidents and even road rage incidents.
