Brevard County, just like any county with a significant population, has its share of accidents. There are “hotspots” where more accidents are likely to occur because of congestion or poorly designed traffic intersections. These occur all over the county and even on our main highways.

I-95 is known to be one of the busiest interstate highways in the nation. This highway averages over 72,000 vehicles per day and reaches as high as 300,000. Speed limits are posted at 70mph, but drivers often and regularly exceed these limits by 10 or 20 mph. When this many vehicles are grouped together traveling at these speeds, accidents are inevitable. We regularly see serious accidents on this highway right here in Brevard County.

Defensive driving and traveling the speed limit are the best way to avoid accidents on I-95 or any other major highway. You never know what is going on in the minds of other drivers and you cannot control that. But you can control how you approach driving on this major thoroughfare.

Beachside

Pedestrians often need to cross A1A to get to the beach from their homes or wherever they may have parked. Civilians being hit by automobiles is nothing new to these stretches of road. Beachside towns and cities have taken precautions to help pedestrians as much as possible, but the occasional accident still occurs.

Cities have added crosswalks with plastic posts and flashing lights distinguishing them. They have also lowered the speed limit to 30mph at many of these locations.

Boating

Unfortunately boating accidents are much too common. Distracted operation, collisions, swimmer and boat operator injuries are the most common reports of boat-involved accidents. The Indian River is one of the more common spots for boating or water sports accidents.

Although there are clearly posted waterways, boat and jet ski operators still find themselves in minor and major collision situations. It’s ideal to have an operator who has nothing to drink and is fully aware of their surroundings. But even then, problems can arise.
